“There is no place in the Harris County government or any other government in the US, to attempt to silence a voter.” Those strong words were offered by Becky Langston during last week’s Harris County Commission meeting regarding alleged behavior by a member of the Harris County Board of Elections.
Sunday was Father’s Day, and it got me to thinking about my dad, who left us in 2007. Dad was a pretty good fellow, all things considered. Like all fathers, he made a few mistakes while we kids grew up, but he made sure of one thing: my brother and I grew up to be gentlemen. And my sister grew up to be a lady. That was a non-negotiable part of our childhood; learning to do the right thing even when nobody was watching was another. I have to admit I fall short on that, as we all do, but Dad did his best. Happy Father’s Day, Dad, wherever you are. Now, on to the trivia!
Independence Day is a day we celebrate with family, friends, fireworks, parades, food and more. It’s a day to remember our freedom and to remember those who fought for that freedom and those who continue to fight for it. Independence Day is a big deal in America, as it should be.

Champion Crossroads K-9 Center in Pine Mountain held a dock diving competition on June 13th in remembrance of Judy Eyer. Judy passed away this spring and was an ardent animal lover and supporter of the Humane Society of Harris County and the K-9 Center.
