Vote to Decide SPLOST Tax Fate

When Talbot County voters go to the polls on Nov. 3, they will be asked to pass a one percent Special Purpose Local Option Sales and Use Tax, which is actually an extension of the current sales tax already being collected.
Qualified voters will be asked to vote for or against a one percent (1%) county special purpose local option sales and use tax (the “SPLOST”) shall be imposed and continued on all sales and uses in the County for a period of six (6) years.
The tax is expected to raise approximately $5,900,000 for the purpose of funding capital outlay projects to include road, street, and bridge purposes, including related transportation infrastructure improvements and capital outlay projects concerning volunteer fire departments.
Also the funds will help with acquisition, construction, renovation, equipping and installation of capital outlay projects concerning an emergency management service (“EMS”) facility or building and capital outlay projects concerning the renovation, improving, and equipping of the existing park facilities of the County;
• Acquisition, construction, renovation, equipping and installation of capital outlay projects concerning water meter upgrades in the City of Talbotton; acquisition, construction, renovation, equipping and installation of capital outlay projects concerning the expansion, improvements, and renovations of City Hall in the City of Talbotton; acquisition, construction, equipping and installation of capital outlay projects consisting of parks and recreational facilities, as well as improvements and renovations to existing parks recreational facilities located in the City of Talbotton; acquisition, construction, installation, expansion, repair, and improvement of capital outlay projects concerning sidewalks in the City of Talbotton.
• Acquisition, construction, renovation, equipping and installation of capital outlay projects concerning water and sewer in the City of Woodland; acquisition, construction, equipping and installation of capital outlay projects consisting of parks and recreational facilities, as well as improvements and renovations to existing parks recreational facilities in the City of Woodland; acquisition, construction, renovation, equipping and installation of capital outlay projects concerning the expansion, improvements, and renovations of City Hall in the City of Woodland.
• Acquisition, construction, renovation equipping and installation of capital outlay projects concerning water and sewer in Junction City; acquisition, construction, renovation, equipping, improving, and installation of capital outlay projects concerning parks and recreational facilities in Junction City; capital outlay projects concerning the paving, resurfacing, repair, reconstruction, and improvement of municipal streets and related infrastructure in Junction City; the acquisition, construction, installation, expansion, repair, and improvement of sidewalks, pedestrian pathways, crosswalks, streetscape and gateway improvements, and related infrastructure within Junction City;
• Acquisition, construction, renovation, equipping and installation of capital outlay projects concerning water and sewer in the City of Geneva; capital outlay projects concerning citywide beautification and improvements including landscaping, planting of trees and grass, irrigation systems, lighting, signage, public spaces, sidewalks, and related infrastructure in the City of Geneva; acquisition, installation, construction, and equipping of an electronic bulletin board (electronic message sign), together with all necessary foundations, utility connections, software, hardware, signage, and related infrastructure in the City of Geneva.
• Acquisition, installation, construction and equipping of capital outlay projects concerning roads and bridges purposes in the City of Manchester; acquisition, installation, construction and equipping of capital outlay projects concerning water and sewer in the City of Manchester; acquisition, installation, construction and equipping of capital outlay projects concerning public safety in the City of Manchester.
SPLOST collections do help in reducing property taxes for citizens. It is important to note this will not increase sales tax.
