Byron City Council Accepts $250,000 Grant for New Skate Park
BYRON, Ga. – The Mayor and City Council of Byron have voted to authorize the Mayor to execute the acceptance of the terms of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Grant regarding the Byron Skate Park. This grant of $250,000 will be used to help design, construct, and build the Byron Skate Park, which will be located at the old Byron elementary school near the Municipal Complex.
Following that, the council approved a temporary moratorium of six months on gas stations, travel centers, and convenience stores in the City of Byron.
Next, the mayor and council approved a resolution to authorize the mayor to execute all award documents consisting of the CHIP Grant Agreement, a Resolution for the 2024 CHIP Administrative Manual, a Resolution for the Local Policies and Procedures, a Resolution for Eligibility Requirements, a Resolution for Georgia State Statutes and a Resolution for Section 3 Policies as they pertain to the 2024 Community Home Incentive Program (CHIP) Grant.
The council approved a resolution to authorize the hiring of Grant Specialists of Georgia, Inc. for technical and administrative services regarding the 2024 Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) Grant. They also approved a new bank account to be opened regarding the 2024 Community HOME Incentive Program (CHIP) Grant.
There were four first readings of new ordinances. First, ordinance no. 2024-6 regarding the creation of a new street to be named Bill Green Drive within the corporate limits of the City of Byron. Second, ordinance no. 2024-7 which will set limits to the number of vape and hookah shops within the City of Byron. Third, ordinance no. 2024-8 regarding limiting the number of wreckers that are on call at a time to two in the City of Byron. Fourth, ordinance no. 2024-9 regarding Storm Water.
As each of these ordinances was a first reading, the council did not vote for approval at the time and the ordinances will be voted on in the upcoming September meeting.
Next, the council approved a permit application for fireworks displays to be in accordance with House Bill 417, O.C.G.A. 25-10-4.
Following that, the council approved a resolution to allow the Mayor to authorize a Permanent BMP Maintenance Agreement with Early Estates Subdivision regarding property located at Tax Map 052 014CA and 052 014C.
