Fatal shooting at Lakeview Apartments in Fort Valley, police chief says

A man is dead after suffering a fatal gunshot wound at Lakeview apartments, according to the Fort Valley Police Department.

FORT VALLEY, Ga. — A man is dead after a fatal shooting at the Lakeview Apartments, according to a release from the Fort Valley Police Department.

In the release, officers responded to the 1100 block of Edwards Street after receiving reports of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound inside the residence. 

Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks has identified the man as Evens Jean Baptiste, 67.

According to the release, Baptiste was immediately transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead by the medical staff.

Chief of Police David Wilson stated that the FVPD contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), who have “assumed responsibility for the investigation.”
