* South Georgia Historic and Horrific Wildfires *
Greetings and blessings! Today I’m overly concerned, disturbed and heavily sadden as I watched the South Georgia Wildfires news for the past days. It has been more than a week since wildfire has ripped, destroyed and ravished everything in its path. I’ve seen it in the other parts of the country but not in Georgia. These unprecedented and unpredictable fires in Clinch and Brantley Counties, Hwy 82 have caused severe, devastating damage in more ways than one. Unfortunately, more than 120 homes, including other structures, and vehicles have been burned to the ground. Unbelievable, but so, more than 50 thousand acres torched as the fires were reported, doubled last night.
These blazing fires are fueled by leftover debris from Hurricane Helene. One dealership alone, lost more than 300 vehicles but grateful and thankful to God, as of now only one life, a firefighter, and we pray for his family. Understandably these courageous, relentless firefighters are exhausted yet giving it their all but regretfully, Georgia Forestry sees no end in sight. So, please stop, take a minute or perhaps more and imagine us being in this predicament. And do remember, it’s as close as next door. One lady said, she heard a rapid knock at the door followed by a scream to get out now, like right now with no place to go! Of course, our GA governor has declared emergency in 91 or Georgia counties. Since Saturday, the firefighters have responded to more than 15 brand new fires. And too, the wildfire is moving faster than the combined fighters from various locations, while many is on the way from North Georgia. It’s believed that the fire originated in Clinch County from a party balloon sparked from a power line and another from a welder.
So then, as Georgians, I’m requesting prayers, which is great, because God hears and He answers. But yet still, we have a solemn duty as Georgian to help our neighbors. Thankfully, many in the safe zones have opened their homes, churches, school facilities to help shelter/house and feed those that are burnt out, evacuated and in need. Meanwhile, I sincerely asked that we take this situation very seriously as we lay down tonight in our nice shelter with comfortable beds. Say a fervent prayer for those many, who in minutes of fire, lost everything with no place to call their own to lay their head. Prayers are sufficient, but our support and love is much needed as well! It’s time now if ever, to apply and exercise the “Golden Rule,” “Do Unto Other As You Would Want Them To Do To You! (Luke 6:31). In doing so, that will make the necessary difference in this critical time. “WE are our brother’s keeper.”
