Qualifying for BOE Seat Begins

Qualifying dates have been set to fin the unexpired term of Nikki Waller, the District 4 representative on the Talbot County Board of Education, according to Elections Supervisor Sharita Trice.
The special election for the District 4 seat will be held in conjunction with the General Election scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The Advance Voting location is 1761 Geneva Highway in Talbotton and will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. beginning Oct. 13.
The polling location will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
If a runoff is needed the runoff election will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Qualifying for the Special Election will be held at the Talbot County Board of Elections and Registration office located at 1761 Geneva Highway in Talbotton beginning on Monday, July 27 and Tuesday, July 28 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily and end on Wednesday, July 29 between the hours of 9 a.m. until 12 noon.
The qualifying fee for the seat is $282 and must be paid by check or money order. Checks need to be made payable to Talbot County Board of Elections. The Election and Registration office will not accept cash for the qualifying fee.
Candidates wishing to seek the District 4 seat must be a registered voter in Talbot County, been a resident of District 4 for at least one year prior to the election date and must not have been convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude.
Advanced/Early Voting will be conducted for the special election beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 13 and ending on Friday, Oct. 30 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. There will be two Saturday voting days scheduled for Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Absentee ballot applications are available online at sos.ga.gov and at “My Voter Page Georgia” (https:www.mvp.sos.ga.gov).
Registered voters can also call the Talbot County Elections office at 706-665-8270 to request that an application be mailed to your home. Ballots will be mailed starting Oc. 5.
All District 4 residents who are not registered to vote, and desire to vote in the Special Election, must register by Oct. 5.
