Shiloh Police Officers Honored After Saving the Life of Injured Teenager

The Chief of Police of Shiloh and one of his officers were honored by the Shiloh Mayor and Council during the board’s regular meeting held on June 2.
The Mayor and Council presented Chief Wayne Cato and Officer Roy Harper with Commendations for saving the life of a teenager severly injured in an accident on May 10.

The Chief of Police of Shiloh and one of his officers were honored by the Shiloh Mayor and Council during the board’s regular meeting held on June 2.
The Mayor and Council presented Chief Wayne Cato and Officer Roy Harper with Commendations for saving the life of a teenager severly injured in an accident on May 10.
Harper’s commendation states that around 1:50 p.m. on May 10, he was home when a motor vehicle accident occurred and he immediately responded to aid a 16 year-old girl injured in the accident. The teen had fractured her femur and was bleeding severly when Harper arrived on the scene.
He immediately used his belt to make a tourniquet and reduce or stop the bleeding.
A short time later, Chief Cato arrived on the scene and retrieved his department issued medical bag and placed a tourniquet on the teenager’s leg.
The teen received several injuries in the accident including a traumatic femoral artery injury what caused heavy bleeding and blood loss.
The Commendation by the City of Shiloh notes aht the actions of Harper and Chief Cato prior to the arrival of first responders at the scene, were quick and decisive and greatly contributed to preserving the life of the teenager and helped to prevent what coul have been a fatal outcome.
“These actions by Harper and Chief Cato exemplified distinguished and unselfish action above and beyond the call of ordinary citizenship; therefore, they are commendable,” the Mayor and Council noted in the commendation to both police officers.
