Kidney Disease Awareness Event Scheduled for April 18th in Shiloh
I was born on April 17 and, as a child, my birthday always fell the weekend of or after Easter. Then the government, in it’s infinite wisdom, decided to move Easter around every year. Growing up on a farm you learn a lot about livestock, planting, harvesting and the seasons. If you research this I assure you what I’m about to say is accurate. The Dogwood trees always bloom from early to mid April. Usually between April 4th or 5th to around the 13th to 15th. That doesn’t change. As a Christian, I believe in the legend of the Dogwood. Legend says the Dogwood was used for the cross that Jesus hung upon and when its blossoms it symbolizes the crucifixion.
The Talbotton Police Department held an Easter Egg Hunt and Easter event for all the children and residents of Talbot County on Saturday, Apr. 4 and the event was well attended.
April is upon us, and that can only mean one thing. Showers? Nope. Flowers? Nope. Baseball? Yes, but not in this context. It means that it's time for the annual April Fool edition of the column. Three of the items in this week's collection were totally made up by me, and your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to determine which ones they are. No prizes are offered because I'm a senior citizen on fixed income (i.e., a cheap so-and-so), but you would at least win the glory of knowing that I can't fool you. If you want, you can send your guesses to me at my e-mail address: didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com and I'll let you know how many you got right. The game's afoot!

Is Artificial Intellingence really taking over the world? I asked an AI generator about that, and here’s what it said:
Marie Vazquez was sentenced to 25 years for her involvement in an overdose death from 2023.
Whether we share religious beliefs or not, the sanctity of a church should be respected. On Sunday, January 18, the Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, was in the midst of their worship service. Men, women, and children were gathered inside and conducting their service, no different than Christian churches were doing across the nation. Suddenly their worship service was rudely interrupted by a crowd of anti-ICE agitators and protesters that stormed the church, screaming and shouting, calling the church attendees demons, and terrorizing those in attendance. Images of the event showed children cowering in fear, and men trying to shield their wives and children from the onslaught. There can be no doubt that some of the younger children witnessing this onslaught were traumatized by it. These children went from singing “Jesus love me” in this church to witnessing a rabid crowd burst through the doors and screaming they were demons.
Greetings and blessings! As I write this Monday, it’s MLK’s federal holiday. Of course, King died fighting for equal rights, for black and white with high expectations for his fellow man, and so must we! Indeed, I fervently pray that one of our major utmost expectations this year 2026 will be striving to build a stronger and intimate relationship with God! And too, that we began anew believing the best of and in everyone we know. More so, ask God to help us to be anxious and ready to sincerely forgive and forget, like He forgives us over and over again. In doing so, it will help us have more peace and joy. Furthermore, we will enjoy the people in our lives much more than ever before.
