The Meriwether County Commission voted at their June 8 meeting to put before the county’s voters a question on replacing some property taxes with a one-cent local option sales tax.

Last week, this column – the silliness you’re reading right now – won an award! For the second year in a row, my little exercise in trivia was voted second place in the Lifestyle/Feature Column category in the Georgia Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest.
Apparently, this makes me (gasp) an award-winning columnist!

I have always felt lucky to be an American and live in such a great country. We have privileges citizens of other nations do not. It’s a strong nation – well, for the most part.
