Peach County Board of Commissioners Recognizes Emergency Medical Services Week
The Peach County Board of Commissioners recognized the Peach County EMS team during the Emergency Medical Services Week.
FORT VALLEY, Ga. — The Peach County Board of Commissioners is calling on the community to recognize Sunday, May 17, through Saturday, May 23, as Emergency Medical Services Week.
The Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation that recognizes emergency medical services as vital public services that provide important, out-of-hospital care, helping to fill gaps in the care continuum. The proclamation further states the importance of recognizing the value and accomplishments of emergency medical service providers.
At 6:30 p.m., the board held two public hearings. The first was concerning a subdivision request located at 135 Summer Breeze Drive. The request called for two separate subdivisions. The first was on a smaller property of roughly 1 acre, with the owners asking to subdivide the property to allow a 30-foot easement for a neighboring property. The second subdivision was for the neighboring property, which was roughly 14 1/2 acres, to be subdivided into 5 acres, to allow the remaining 9 acres to be sold. The commissioners approved the subdivision requests.
The second public hearing was concerning a rezoning request for a property on State University Drive, which was unanimously denied by the board. The request was to rezone a 1.1-acre property at 2075 State University Drive from R-1 Low-Density Residential District to R-3 High-Density Residential District. The Peach County Planning and Zoning board stated that the rezoning would cause an isolated zoning district and constitute spot zoning, as the surrounding properties are zoned as R-1 Low Density Residential District.
Concerning old business, Peach County Attorney James Banter presented the intergovernmental agreement for animal housing and support services between Peach County and the City of Fort Valley. The Peach County Animal Control Facility will have four kennels that are reserved and available at all times for use by Fort Valley. The agreement states that the County will provide housing, basic care, and necessary facilities for canines transferred from Fort Valley.
The commissioner approved awarding Reeves Construction Company with the Sullivan Road improvements, which will total to $712,651, per Triple Point Engineering, Inc. recommendation, based on the lowest price and highest qualifications score.
Commissioner Wade Yoder spoke on his experiences with the Peach County and Crawford County Accountability Court and asked his fellow commissioners to support the Accountability Court, which they agreed to do.
Commissioner Yoder announced the upcoming Highway 96/341 Railroad Intersection opening ceremony that the Peach Regional Chamber of Commerce will host on Friday, May 22, at 9:00 a.m.
