The Harris County Commission has approved spending nearly $950,000 on generators and backup power-related needs
The unanimous vote came during the meeting held Tuesday, Mar. 17, with the project being awarded to Energy Systems Southeast of Birmingham, AL, at a low bid of $840,383. Five companies offered bids and for comparison, the high bid was nearly $1.5 million.
A FEMA, or Federal Emergency Management Agency, grant in the amount of $656,809 is funding most of the project with the county’s match at $218,936.
The entire project will be utilized by Harris County Water Works and the low bid amount was not the final cost as changes were made to the project.
It was noted during the meeting that one component of the proposed project was removed with that being a permanent generator at water treatment plant A. Added to the project were a generator hookup, portable generator and temporary power for the booster pump station on Barnes Mill Road, portable generator hookup and temporary power at Hamilton Mulberry Grove Road, and portable generator hookup with temporary power on Hwy, 27.
Those changes to the project resulted in a cost increase to $946,886.
It was reported the additional $71,141 would be funded from Water Works.
