Troup County Superintendent Rachel Hazel recommended the Board of Education approve the construction by J&R Construction and Development during a meeting on Monday, June 22. The maximum cost of the construction would be $19,169,555.
The facility will be state of the art and will include a room for a full orchestra show for use by the district’s orchestra program.
The target date for completion is early summer of 2027.
Also, the board approved an expenditure of $80,000 in an agreement with Geo-Hydro Engineers, Inc. to provide soil testing, materials and inspection services for the project.
Dr. Pennie Tucker, the assistant superintendent of operations, told the board there was a lot of rock in the dirt where the construction will occur and approving the maximum amount of expenditures for the project would hopefully keep from having to request more funds.
“If we need it (the funds) we’ll have it,” Tucker said. “If we don’t need it, we won’t use it.”
Tucker pointed out the work includes quality evaluations that will include soil testing, foundation evaluation, concrete inspections, structural testing, pavement inspections and masonry testing.
Once completed, all three high schools in Troup County will have auditoriums.
