Greetings and blessings! Time changes but history remains the same! Unfortunately, too many know too little or anything about Juneteenth history, neither did I. So once again, I graciously use this platform to bring awareness and most importantly, to educate. Stay with me!
Well, if this ain’t a kick in the head! Last week, this column - the silliness you’re reading right now - won an award! For the second year in a row, my little exercise in trivia was voted second place in the Lifestyle/Feature Column category in the Georgia Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest. I have always felt lucky to be an American and live in such a great country. We have privileges citizens of other nations do not. It’s a strong nation - well, for the most part.
If it smells like stinky brown stuff, it probably is. Looking back to January, a group of people protesting against the US Immigration and Customs service, or ICE, stormed Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, during a service.
I can’t speak for anyone other than myself, of course, but I cannot operate without at least two cups of coffee in the morning.
Five hundred columns down, and an infinity of columns yet to go! After last week’s party for the 500th collection of silly trivia, you’d think I would be ready to give up, right? Heck no. I’m just getting started. In fact, I plan to be around until we hit 1,000 columns and then some! From now until late November the weather can become unpredictable in a matter of minutes. Why? Because we are now in the tornado and hurricane season. Keeping in mind that these storms can knock out power for several days, take lives and leave you, family or friends homeless, it is time to consider taking precautions and preparing in the event of a natural disaster such as a tornado or hurricane.
