No Surprises in Meriwether Vote
Votes cast in Meriwether County in the General Primary Runoff Election pretty much matched the state for the exception of a couple of races.
Votes cast in Meriwether County in the General Primary Runoff Election pretty much matched the state for the exception of a couple of races.
In the race for Governor, Rick Jackson defeated his opponent Burt Jones in the Primary. In Meriwether Jackson received 1,391 voters and Jones received 816. Jackson will now face Democratic candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms, former Atlanta mayor in November.
In the race for the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor, Greg Dolezal defeated John F. Kennedy. The race was close and it was also close in Meriwether with Dolezal receiving 1,137 votes and Kennedy receiving 1,022. Dolezal will face Democrat Josh McLaurin in November.
McLaurin won the Democratic nomination by defeated Nabilah Parkes,but did not get the nod in Meriwether. Parkes received 311 votes and McLaurin recevied 272.
In the US Senate Republican nomination race for US Senate, Mike Collins defeated Derek Dooley and Meriwether voters supported Collins as well casting 1,136 votes in his favor and Dooley received 1,044. Collins will now face Democrat Incumbent Jon Ossoff in November.
Republican Tim Fleming won the nomination to seek the Secretary of State race in November by defeating Vernon Jones. Fleming received 1,274 votes in Meriwether County and Jones received 826. Fleming will oppose Democrat Penny Brown Reynolds in November.
Reynolds was the state choice for the Democrat nomination easily defeating Dana Barrett. Reynolds received 435 votes in Meriwether County and Barrett received 149.
In the runoff for the Democratic nomination for the Commissioner of Insurance, Keisha Sean Waites eaned the right to face Republican Incumbent John King in November by defeating DeAndre Mathis. Meriwether voters cast 380 votes for Waites and 203 for Mathis.
Republican State School Superintendent Richard Woods will face Democratic nomination Dr Lydia Powell in November after defeating his challenger Fred “Bubba” Longgrear. Longgrear won in Meriwether County receiving 1,157 votes and Woods received 938.
Democrat Nikki Porcher will face Republican Incumbent Barbara Rivera Holmes in November in the race for Commissioner of Labor. Porcher defeated Michelle Michi Sanchez in the Runoff on Tuesday. Porcher won Meriwether as well receiving 318 votes and Sanchez received 280.
Republican Josh Tolbert will face Democrat Shelia Edwards in November in the race for Public Service Commissioner for District 5. Tolbert won in Meriwether County and received 1,126 votes to Bobby Mehan’s 887 votes.
