Summer School Ends at CEHS

During the Talbot County Board of Education meeting held on June 16, the board heard that summer school is ending at Central Elementary-High School and it was a tremendous success for the students.
During the meeting, it was reported that summer school went smoothly and approximately 60 students participated this year.
It was also reported there were no disruptions or incidents during the program which, it was point out, was a testament to having a safe and productive learning environment for the students.
With summer school ending, the students were able complete their Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS) retake exams during the final week of summer school. The last week of summer school was June 22 through June 26.
The board also heard the efforts of Child Find is ongoing throughout the community.
The Talbot County School District seeks to ensure that all children with disabilities (ages 3-21) within its jurisdiction are being served.
Child Find is a federally established comprehensive system designed to ensure that each child, regardless of disability, has access to a free and appropriate public education.
The purpose of Child Find is to locate, identify, and evaluate children from 3 to 21 years of age who may have a developmental delay or other disabilities and provide appropriate services.
The board learned that outreach programs and advertisements are shared with families of children attending private schools, homeschool programs, churches, and community groups, helping connect students with the support and resources they may need to succeed.
The board was also told the Babies Can’t Wait program continues to help identify infants and toddlers, from birth to age 3, who may benefit from early intervention services. By recognizing developmental needs as early as possible, the program connects families with valuable resources and support that can help children reach important milestones and build a strong foundation for future success.
Speech occupational therapy services seeking an in-house occupational therapy specialist.
The board was told that six years after gradation special education documents may be destroyed.
They were also told about Special Olympic Georgia, a nonprofit organization that provides year around sports training for athletic competitions for students with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.
