Proud to Be an American, But Concerned
I have always felt lucky to be an American and live in such a great country. We have privileges citizens of other nations do not. It’s a strong nation – well, for the most part.
I have always felt lucky to be an American and live in such a great country. We have privileges citizens of other nations do not. It’s a strong nation – well, for the most part.
My family has always supported, and always will support our military. We owe a great deal to the men and women who have fought for, put their lives on the line and gave of themselves to provide us with the freedoms we enjoy.
We are only days away from celebrating 250 years of independence in this nation. It is exciting and as Americans we can be proud and enjoy the holiday.
However I would like to point out that in recent years, while I love this country and am proud to live here, I have developed some concerns.
Things I’ve read recently indicates, to me anyway, that I’m not the only person in America that has concerns.
It seems that government corruption is a concern for most Americans and a recent survey indicates that about 54% of the population shares that concern.
Unfortunately, we are not just seeing corruption in the government. We are hearing about it in law enforcement, the justice system and so on.
The economy and the continued increase in the cost of living is another thing I’m concerned about and I’m sure so are many other Americans.
I’m concerned about our youth and their mindset. It seems every day we hear or read about violent acts committed by our youth.
I’m concerned about gun violence, and while it is being reported that violent crimes are on the decrease, it seems that we are constantly hearing or reading about gun violence.
I have a grandson who is autistic, so I can say this, there is so much injustice for people with mental challenges, there is a lack of help for them and are often, in my opinion anyway, forgotten.
That also goes along with the concern for healthcare, which is extremely costly. That cost is hurting the middle class and the elderly. I’m sure if you ask any American they would agree this is a major concern that needs addressing.
It seems the moral values of our nation has been on the decrease for a long time and it appears to be continuing.
I work with a couple of pastors and they speak out about the decreased numbers in attendance and other problems in the church. While reading my Bible recently I thought how history continues to repeat itself. Just read about Jesus and the Temple.
There are many problems and issued facing our nation at the present time that need to be addressed and dealt with.
I have many, many more concerns, but here is the biggest one.
With all of these concerns the question is… What is our government doing to address any of these? In my opinion very little if anything at all is being done.
Here in the land of the free and home of the brave life is tough. As Americans we don’t mind having to deal with tough times but it seems common sense in government has gone out the window.
I believe it’s time for the government to realize America needs leadership. It’s time to stop bickering, making empty promises and begin to address the needs of the American people.
It’s time for us, as Americans, to stand up to Washington and our state officials and let them know how we feel and ask for them to do what they were elected to do…. listen to the American people and address their concerns.
I vote in every election, but I can’t say that voting changes things, but it sure can’t hurt and it gives us a voice. Let your voice be heard.
