Perry to roll out citywide texting service
The City of Perry is planning to releasing a citywide texting service later this week, offering answers to questions of residents and subscribers.
Tabitha Clark, senior communications administrator for Perry, said this free service will be heavily promoted following its launch.
“The City of Perry is very excited to launch the new texting service called Perry Points,” Clark said. “Basically, this is a texting service where people can get answers to common questions or city information; it [the service] pulls directly from the [city’s] website.
“They can also send messages to staff and get a message to a certain staff member. They can also receive text alerts, which is one of the reasons why we’re super excited about this service.”
She said Perry Points will feature updates on downtown and city news, and the texting service will offer a handy option to alert city officials of anything urgent.
“If there’s a certain group of people, such as the New Haven and Stonebridge subdivisions, with updates on their water service — they can actually sign up for those text messages,” Clark said. “And they [city personnel] will go out to those specific people.”
The City of Perry app is still available, but Clark said Perry Points would allow residents to file complaints and report issues.
“This [service] will hopefully be going out Thursday or Friday of this week,” she said. “It is a free service — and all they [residents] have to do is text ‘Hello’ to that dedicated number, and they can save that phone number in their phone and text it whenever they want to.
“So they can say: ‘When is my trash pickup day?’ and it’ll automatically respond back with a link to that information.”
Text “Hello” to (888) 49-PERRY and use Perry Points to find city information, report issues, message city staff and sign up for text alerts.
