Brock Johnson gave Westfield an early 1-0 Game 1 lead with a single into center field, but it was all Valiants from there. The runs trickled in through a passed ball, dropped third strike and a fly out. Five errors, two walks and a hit-by-pitch put several of those runs on base.

Game 2 was significantly more contested despite Valwood’s 6-3 lead after the fourth inning.

Brett Yawn’s single scored the first of two runs in the fifth inning; Carter Black scored on a 6-3 double play.

Black doubled to tie the game in the sixth and Matt Molina blasted a bomb over center field to take a 9-6 lead into the seventh inning.

However, a hit-by-pitch, walk, balk and error scored three runs for the Valiants. Another error scored the go-ahead run. Valwood struck out two in the bottom and secured the final out in right field.

Westfield finishes their season with a 17-15 overall record, 5-7 district record and a quarterfinals appearance.
