July 4 shooting kills Macon man
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Warner Robins Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place on Independence Day.
According to a release by the department, officers were called around 11 p.m. on July 4. Officers responded to the intersection of Stevens Street and Sherry Drive for a man found with a gunshot wound.
Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was walking down Stevens Street when an unknown suspect shot him from a vehicle.
According to Sgt. Justin Clark, the victim and the suspect were involved in a verbal altercation leading up to the shooting.
Once officers arrived, they found the victim laying face down on Stevens Street, identified as 19-year-old Ormand Humphrey of Macon. Humphrey was transported by EMS to Houston Healthcare – Warner Robins, where he was pronounced dead.
Since then, investigators have been piecing together a motive and narrative through video footage and interviewing witnesses.
“There was, fortunately, quite a bit of video cameras in the neighborhood and surrounding businesses. A lot of it has been canvassing, getting those videos and trying to get more information on the vehicle, since it was so dark in that area,” Clark said.
As of press time on Friday, the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with more information is encouraged to call Detective Riley Sims at (478) 293-1046 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at (478) 742-2330.
