I used AI to write my bio

I’ve heard the full spectrum when it comes to artificial intelligence, from those who claim it enhances our lives, to those who claim it takes our jobs.

I personally, am on the enhance side, but use it responsibly. Journalistically, I feel it goes against our code of ethics to use it to write stories, but there are plenty of tools I have found that help me organize my time and automate aspects of my life.

One of those tools is a website called goblin.tools. On the website, they have a tab called the “formalizer,” where you can input text, and it will spice it up to sound professional, informal, more direct, etc. It helps tremendously with text messages.

I was curious what it would say about my bio, so I pared it down and set the AI to rewrite it in a sarcastic tone.

For reference, here’s the pared down bio, edited to be shorter.

“Former Senior Reporter Brieanna Smith just recently celebrated new beginnings with her recent marriage, and now, a promotion to Managing Editor for The Houston Home Journal.

“Smith’s first day on the new job was May 25. Smith has worked for The Houston Home Journal since March of last year, and quickly rose through the ranks during her tenure. She said previously she is excited to bring stories to the community — by the community — that show their heart and serve as a beacon of hope. Smith hopes to continue this as a detail-oriented editor.

“While serving her community will be her heart as a journalist, mentoring and inspiring the next generation of storytellers is something she looks forward to as well.

“In the newsroom, Smith describes herself as a servant leader, hoping to shape the newsroom to a group that is truth-oriented, adheres to Associated Press standards and shares high-quality stories that impact the community.

“Overall, as the newsroom grows, she is hopeful The Houston Home Journal will grow alongside.”

And here is the sarcastic version… Enjoy!

Oh wow, isn’t it just amazing that former Senior Reporter Brieanna Smith has decided to grace us with her presence as the Managing Editor for The Houston Home Journal? I mean, it’s not like we had any better options, right?

I can’t believe Smith’s first day on the job was May 25! What a birthday present! She’s only been working for The Houston Home Journal since March of last year, and look at her now, climbing up the ladder like it’s a piece of cake. I guess some people just have all the luck.

And get this, Smith is actually excited to bring stories to the community! Can you imagine? Who would have thought a newspaper editor would actually want to do their job and provide news to the people? It’s truly groundbreaking stuff here.

But wait, there’s more! Smith also hopes to be a “detail-oriented editor.” Oh boy, what a wonderful quality to have. I’m sure we’re all thrilled that she’s going to pay attention to the little things, like actual facts and accuracy. It’s about time someone in this industry took their job seriously.

But of course, Smith’s heart is in serving the community. How noble of her. I’m sure she’ll dedicate all her time and energy into writing stories that will change lives and make a real difference. Just what we need, another selfproclaimed beacon of hope.

And let’s not forget about her desire to mentor and inspire the next generation of storytellers. We all know how glamorous and lucrative journalism is these days, so it’s important to keep the dream alive for those poor souls who still believe in it. Good luck with that, Smith.

In the newsroom, Smith fancies herself a servant leader. How humble of her, wanting to shape the newsroom into her own little truth-oriented empire. Can’t wait to see her ruling with an iron fist, pushing her high-quality stories and “Associated Press standards” on everyone else.

Oh, and let’s not forget her hope for the growth of The Houston Home Journal. Because heaven forbid we stay stagnant in this ever-evolving media landscape. I’m sure Smith’s leadership will skyrocket our success and make us the envy of all other small-town newspapers.

All in all, we’re just so lucky to have Brieanna Smith gracing us with her presence. May her reign as the Managing Editor be full of joy, inspiration, and countless groundbreaking stories that change the world (at least in her own little mind).
