Collateral Damage

The exact terminology may have surfaced in recent years — but the process has been with us since the first “controversial plan of action.” The fundamental error of things can be described as “unintended consequences!” Occasionally, horrific conditions are spelled out for the world to witness! Those events are tragic — abominable —and despicable, yet remain in the column of “accidental.” And such mistakes have been in the hopper since day one. They were never meant to be. The present phrase is about Israeli Troopers slaughtering three of their own — mistakenly identified as enemy combatants. The deed is far from the first and will not be the last. The demise of human beings within the perimeters of “collateral damage” comes in assorted packages — in civilian stints, in professional circles, but generally in military action. A million regrets are always within the diabolical script — but does not alter the scenario. The memories of irreversible deeds will linger for a lifetime.

While the world has orchestrated an unbelievable dimension of sophisticated materials, weapons, and methodology, we have yet to arrive at the post of perfection. As long as nations wage the crucible of war, there will be collateral damage to human beings and structures. Every country has experienced the bedlam of exceeding boundaries and conditions, resulting in casualties. Occasionally, gross negligence exists — possibly finding one or more persons in violation — and rendering applicable punishment/correction. On other occasions, the errors are deemed as the price of the Mission — with redemptions extended as is practical. However, none are taken for granted; all are seriously viewed, investigated, and made a part of future rectification.

At the moment, Israel’s adversaries use this as reason to advocate the pause of warfare — lending advantage to those who are openly defiant of Jewish survival. For multiple centuries (and for varied reasons,) the tiny contingent of humanity has been bounced about, forced to retreat, acquiesce, and surrender credible cause, all while contributing viable and measurable support to the planet’s welfare. To fault their course is equivalent to global criminality and is opposed to basic civility. Israel deserves the liberty to defend their pursuits even as collateral damage plagues their corner.
