Jacob Deaton is the Owner and Operator of the Georgia Players Guild and he said he runs the production house of all of their shows that travel across the country. They have been performing tribute shows for about eight years.  Deaton also plays guitar for some of the tribute bands as well.

“We were at the [Earl and Rachel Smith] Strand Theatre in Marietta, Georgia, and we decided that maybe it was time to do something like this,” Deaton said. “A group of us got together, put on a show and it sold out. At that point we realized, we should be doing this more often, and our first show was an Eagles show and one of our most successful is the Eagles tribute show.”

Deaton said members of this band are mostly based out of the Atlanta area, and he mentions the band will do about 70 dates for this year and next year closer to 100 dates all across the country.

“[The band members] are highly skilled musicians that I have known for a very long time out of Atlanta that wanted to come together to do this as one big happy family,” he said.

The Georgia Players Guild has performed at the Hawkinsville Opera House before in the form of their Tom Petty and their Creedence Clearwater Revival shows, with CCR being a sellout. Deaton urges people to get their tickets as soon as possible.

“This one is also trending towards a sellout, so if anyone is looking to get a ticket should do so and make sure their seat is saved for the night,” he said.

Deaton said their experience playing at the Hawkinsville Opera House has been great. Deaton added he has a fascination with historical theaters.

“The fascination with historic buildings has always been a part of my life, and it’s no different at the Hawkinsville Opera House, as it’s one of the best naturally sounding rooms that we’ve had a chance to play in in the Southeast,” he said. “I hope the community continues to figure out ways to get behind it. The fact that you guys have [a historical theater] that operates and is providing the level of entertainment to Hawkinsville, and it’s only going to keep growing, is really special. I hope the community continues to support it.”

Deaton said Georgia Players Guild’s mission is to play the songs note for note, harmony for harmony, solo for solo as best as they can to replicate the original recordings the masses know and love.

“When you hear that signature guitar solo on ‘One of These Nights’ or ‘Hotel California’, you’re going to get every single one of those notes,” he said. “What I love about our shows is that they’re very engaging and very exciting because we do take chances at several points in the show and really try to go for it.”

Deaton said every concert is different and every concert experience is unique.

“This particular show is going to feature brand new songs we have not played in this area as we are constantly adding and learning new songs and taking away and adding songs to that list so each one of our shows is really unique and different,” he said.  “It’s not the same show over and over again, as we really try to vary how our setlists are planned, so you’re going to get a fresh experience.”
