Warner Robins man arrested in Atlanta
ATLANTA — A Warner Robins man is behind bars in Houston County after traveling to Atlanta and a run in with law enforcement, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
On July 5, around 3 p.m., the department’s Zone 5 Field Investigations Team was alerted of a wanted person walking in the area of McDaniel and Peter Street in Atlanta.
Once the suspect was confirmed, officers set up a perimeter and made contact, leading to the arrest.
The suspect’s identity was confirmed as 37-year old Richard Mancil of Warner Robins. He was held in Fulton County Jail and is currently at Houston County Detention Facility.
Warner Robins Police Department provided more details on the case that led up to the arrest.
On May 25, Warner Robins officers responded to a call on the 100 block of Angela Avenue. Investigation revealed Mancil climbed through the window and an argument ensued with his ex-girlfriend, who is legally disabled. He attacked the victim with a knife, leaving her severely injured on her arm.
Mancil injured himself as well with the knife and fled the scene. Later he was found on North Davis Drive and transported to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon for surgery, where he was released and left the hospital prior to police notification.
So far, a motive has not yet been determined, however, the police department suspected Mancil had prior history of drug abuse and may have been under the influence during the attack.
Sgt. Justin Clark also assured the public the attack wasn’t random.
“It was between two parties that knew eachother. This wasn’t random, where somebody went in the window and attacked somebody else. They had relationship history,” Clark said.
Mancil was charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, Exploitation of a Disabled Adult, Possession of a Knife During the Commission of a Crime, First Degree Burglary and Attempted Murder.
