Perry reads ordinance on parking
After recently passing an ordinance that outlaws commercial
vehicles to be parked in the front lawns of private property for extended periods
of time, the Perry City Council held a first reading of an ordinance that would
outlaw the parking of recreational vehicles, boat trailers and utility trailers
on public street rights of way.
Because it was a first reading, the council took no action
during the Tuesday meeting.
During the pre-council session, Mayor Jimmy Faircloth asked
what the maximum punishment would be for breaking the law. Perry Police Capt.
Bill Phelps answered that it would most likely fall under “a catch-all fine of
$125.”
In other business, Faircloth read two resolutions honoring
Capt. Heath Dykes and Phelps for going “above and beyond the call of duty” due
to the work environment adjustments in the past three years because of former
Chief George Potter’s illness. Both men also received a one-time bonus.
Council members approved an ordinance amending the fiscal
year 2013 operation budget.
City Manager Lee Gilmour said there were “no major
significant changes” in the budget ordinance. The adjustment is “based on where
the city is halfway through the fiscal year,” stated Lee.
