Georgia Artisan Center created in Perry
The Perry Area Convention and
Visitors Bureau in partnership with the Georgia Artisan Center Task Force
announces the creation of the Georgia Artisan Center in Perry. The task force,
comprised of several local citizens, has been working for more than a year to
create an artisan center in Perry that will celebrate Georgia’s rich artisan
heritage and to encourage locals and travelers alike to enjoy Georgia made
products and activities.
Initially the Georgia Artisan
Center will be located inside the Perry Welcome Center/Convention and Visitors
Bureau, located at 101 Gen. Courtney Hodges Blvd., featuring a retail space
filled with Georgia made artisan products. Juried items such as jewelry,
pottery, books, sculptures, paintings, textiles, food products, and more will
be on consignment from Georgia artisans and made available to the public at a
one-stop shop of unique, hand crafted products. The vision of the task force is
to grow the Georgia Artisan Center to include live artisan demonstrations,
classes, and events.
Sheila Jones, executive
director of the Perry Convention and Visitors Bureau states “We are very
excited about the creation of the Georgia Artisan Center in Perry and happy to
have it located in the Perry Welcome Center. We feel it is a great partnership
and will positively enhance the visitor experience to Perry as well as to
Georgia.”
Bill Loudermilk, chairman of
the Georgia Artisan Center Task Force, adds, “The mission of The Georgia
Artisan Center is to showcase our state’s unique artisans, crafts and heritage,
a venue where arts, history and education come together as a tribute to
Georgia’s significant artisan past and thriving cultural future and where their
works are showcased, traded, and highlighted as opportunities for education and
celebration.”
With the anticipated opening
in late summer of 2013, the operations of the Georgia Artisan Center will be
the responsibility of the Georgia Artisan Center Advisory Board, a 501c3
tax-exempt organization. Information regarding product selection for the center
will be announced at a later date. For more information, you may contact the
Perry Convention and Visitors Bureau at 478-988-8000.
