This is the second drowning this summer in Houston County. The first was on June 9, when 27-year-old Ariel Jones died from drowning in a swimming pool in the 2400 block of Elko Road in Elko.

Williams said both drownings were in private swimming pools at residences.

He advised to never swim alone, regardless of swimming ability. Williams also urged to always make sure a swimming pool is fenced in and in a secure area.

“If you own a swimming pool, know the people swimming in the swimming pool, know their swimming capabilities. If it’s somebody that is inexperienced or a small child, never leave them unattended,” he said.

The final advice William shared is to always have a floating or safety device that can be thrown in the pool if someone is in trouble in the water.
