WARNER ROBINS — After struggling against Lee County in their season opener, the Warner Robins Demons (1-1) did anything but in their first home game against Fayette County (0-2).

Friday’s 42-7 final featured a huge first-half effort from the defensive line and the ground game.

The ground game got going

Skyler Williams, Kelsey Perkins and Travis English Jr. all contributed big plays to the offense, something Warner Robins lacked last week outside of Williams.

Warner Robins football coach Shane Sams gave a lot of credit to his offensive line, who gave more space to those runners on Friday, especially to the outside.

“I’ve seen a lot of improvements, a lot of big improvements. A lot of buying in, a lot of cohesion…which is huge. That’s what we want to see, and that’s what we want to continue to build on,” Sams said.

A big run from Williams put the Demons in the red zone on the first drive of the game, and Da’veon Latimore had a couple of solid runs before punching it in for their first score.

English got the second touchdown with 4:43 to play in the first, and a big return from Nick Linder set up Perkins for the third touchdown of the first quarter.

Warner Robins did connect on a couple of deep balls against Fayette County, which is something they couldn’t do against Lee County.

Daymond Batts caught one on the left sideline to put the Demons on the 25-yard line, that set up the English touchdown in the first quarter.

Williams also found Ezra Goings down the left sideline for a tough catch in the end zone, but that was called back.

The defense held firm

EDGE Isaiah Gibson displayed his superiority on just about every defensive play; He found himself in the backfield greeting the running back or quarterback moments after the snap on many occasions.

Many of the Tigers’ run plays were stuffed at the line or caught for a loss, and even if they did try to air it out a Demon was in the backfield to put pressure on the quarterback.

The defense had a good first half against Lee County, but after a rough second half Sams said they were hard on the defense through the week.

“We were pretty hard on them all practice this week, to be on top of the small things, making sure the small things are done…that’s what we wanted to accomplish, and that’s what we saw tonight,” Sams said.
