Warhawks dominate in Perry on Saturday

PERRY, Ga. — In a non-region clash on Saturday, the Veterans Warhawks (10-5) won convincingly over the Perry Panthers (2-9) in a 77-56 final.

The ‘Hawks stormed the court to start the game and led 20-6 after the first-quarter buzzer.

Though the Panthers’ offense picked up in the second, Veterans continued their authoritative play and entered halftime with a 37-22 advantage.

As the threes rained down in the second half, Perry’s comeback attempt was that much harder. As the third quarter came to a close, the Panthers hit two free throws to trail 56-41 going into the final period.

The fourth quarter echoed the rest of the game as Veterans led 60-41 with two minutes left on the clock. The ‘Hawks closed out the game for the 77-56 final.

Head coach Chip Flemmer commended his team’s pressure on the Panthers and how they navigated through fouls and secured crucial rebounds.

Lady Warhawks 75, Lady Panthers 25

In Saturday’s game between the Veterans Lady Warhawks (10-5) and Perry Lady Panthers (3-7), the Lady ‘Hawks seized control out of the gate and never looked back.

As the first quarter closed, the Lady ‘Hawks held a 20-10 lead, and it only grew as the second quarter played out.

Although the Lady Panthers’ defense attempted to contain the onslaught, as halftime beckoned, the Lady ‘Hawks led 40-16.

To open the second half, sophomore guard Nariah Nelson elevated her team and helped the Lady ‘Hawks outscore the Lady Panthers 19-7.

As the final period marched on, the Lady ‘Hawks held the Lady Panthers to a mere two points, and the final buzzer echoed a 75-25 final in their favor.

Head coach Randall Owens wore a satisfied smile and expressed contentment with his team’s win.

It carried a special significance after their heart-wrenching region loss to Tift County on the previous night.

Owens commended their positive response to the loss and their ability to bounce back into a convincing win on Saturday.
