Visit Perry to host city’s first New Residents Reception and Expo
Visit Perry will be hosting their first ever New Residents and Reception Expo at Perry City Hall on Thursday August 15 from 4-7 p.m.

PERRY– If you are a new resident to Perry or Middle Georgia — or just want to know more about the community in general — you’re in luck. Visit Perry will host their first New Residents Reception Expo. The free event will be Thursday Aug. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m located at Perry City Hall.
While working events in recent months, Visit Perry noticed many people coming up to their booth are new residents of Perry and Middle Georgia.
“A lot of these people are looking for ways to get plugged into the community and get a deeper understanding of what it means to live, work and play in Perry,” Visit Perry executive director Anya Turpin said. “We figured we would be the most appropriate party to host a new residents reception where we can invite all the community partners to attend.”
These interactions between new residents sparked the idea for the New Residents Reception and Expo.
“I thought what better way to have all of the departments and all of the different players together in one room, so that people can just kind of figure out what their questions are and then go directly to that person,” she said.
Notable community partners scheduled to attend will be all City of Perry Government entities, the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce and representatives of the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter. For a look at the community partners that will be in attendance go to hhjonline.com.
Turpin is excited to see the many community partners and organizations that will be in attendance for this event.
“I think if this was something happening whenever I first moved here, I would’ve been very excited to attend,” she said
Turpin said Perry is growing and this event will be a good thing for a city that is on the rise.
“Perry is a small town but we continue to grow every year with new residents, but we also have a lot of people coming from out of town and even out of state,” she said. “Anything we can do to offer that Southern hospitality that Perry is known for, we’re going to try and do it.”
Turpin hopes the reception encourages new residents of Perry to stay for the long-haul.
“I hope that this helps them to settle in and get connected, which is the big thing,” she said. “As a former military spouse, I know what it feels like to move to a new community and not get plugged, but then I also know what it feels like to move to a new community and find the resources that I need to find the job I want, the groups I want to get plugged into and the support from my family that I need. Any way we can help to kind of pair those together with the people and what they’re looking for, we want to play that role.”
Turpin said if this event is successful, Visit Perry would love to grow it.
“We would love to get even more businesses, groups and organizations to join in and would love to host it more frequently,” she said.
Perry residents, Middle Georgia residents, and even visitors are encouraged to attend.
