Veterans, Westfield have 10-game win streaks

Completing a near 30-day span without a loss, the Veterans High Warhawks won for the 10th time in a row Friday and remained undefeated (8-0) in Region 2-AAAA. With five RBI from Zane Conlon, who hit two triples, Veterans blitzed Rutland High 18-5 in five innings at home.

It was a tight contest, 6-5, but the Warhawks scored 12 unanswered from the third to the fourth. The home team had 14 hits to eight for Rutland.

Kal Dempsey drove in three runs for Veterans Friday while Mickey Dugan hit two sacrifice flies. Kyle King had three hits with one RBI, Ross Martin doubled for an RBI and Micah Wells and Tyler Daughtry each doubled.

Ryan Johnson, Brett Decker and Harrison Casey all pitched for Veterans.

WESTFIELD AT FA

The Westfield Hornets spent the off-week from school playing games at a tournament hosted by Frederica Academy on St. Simons Island.

In seven innings Thursday, the Hornets blasted Gatewood 12-2 on 13 hits. Barrett Stanley had three of them – two doubles – and three runs batted in. Reid Hudson drove in three runs hitting a triple and Cotton Hammerle doubled for an RBI.

On the mound, William Amos struck out four in four innings.
 
 

Garrett Brown was on the hill against the host Frederica Knights Friday. He struck out six in four innings before coach Rob Fitzpatrick let three others finish out Westfield’s 11-5 victory.

Brown also doubled and singled at the plate for two RBI. Evan Williams and Gehrig Broxton each had two hits with an RBI, and Hudson tripled and singled with one RBI. Dustin Hall, Beau Holcomb and Amos all pitched in one RBI.

Those wins ran the Hornet win streak to 10 straight.
