Veterans High educator wins Teacher of the Year

Being a teacher is arguably one of the most important career choices to have in this world. Teachers are a huge part of the foundation on which the next generation is built. Teachers, educate the future generations of the world—those who will be among the same people that will lead our country in the years to come. Kids spend the majority of the year with their teachers, and they truly do have a sizable impact on their young lives and futures.

This is exactly why Veterans High School honored Mrs. Jessica Miranda with the recognition of Houston County Teacher of the Year. Miranda is a special education teacher who has been a part of the Veterans staff for eight years and in the education field for a total of 15 years.

Miranda is an alumna of the University of Phoenix. She stated that she knew in middle school that she wanted to teach. She loved learning and loves teaching kids to learn.

Regarding her being bestowed the honor, Miranda said, “The competition was narrowed down to just four teachers, and when I heard her name, I was shocked.” She further stated, “I feel like we have the best staff and the best teachers in the county, so for them to nominate me really means a lot; especially during last year when we had COVID and all of that going on. It really does mean a lot.”

Miranda expressed her joy in seeing special education teachers such as her self being recognized for the hard work they do.

“I love teaching,” she said. “It is most rewarding job on earth.”
