Three times the charm: Demons defeat rival Northside for third consecutive time
The Warner Robins Demons extended their win streak over rival Northside to three games following their 39-0 defensive masterpiece Friday night. The Demons had all of the answers for whatever the Eagles brought to the table. The Warner Robins defense dominated the game from the first whistle. The Eagles run game, stopped. The Eagles pass game -though Northside rarely does that- stopped when they decided to try to take to the air. The Eagles only managed to rush for just 24 yards, a season low. They passed for even less that that, 22 yards.
On the flip side the Demons offense was lights out with junior quarterback Jalen Addie passing for 198 yards on 16-26 attempts. He threw for two touchdowns, one per half. Senior running back, one of the recipients of an Addie touchdown pass, ran for 75 yards on 14 attempts. Both he and junior standout Jahlen Rutherford (team-high 101 yards on 18 runs) had their way during the first half of the game. As did junior linebacker/fullback Ahmad Walker who made the most of his four carries with 10 yards, the most important five coming courtesy of a pair of goal line touchdowns.
Demons senior defensive back Donovan Haslem scored the game’s first points when he intercepted Northside senior quarterback Mason Ford on the Eagles 24 yard line and made his way into the end zone with 7:36 on the clock during the first quarter. The final 2:41 of the quarter ended with another Demons touchdown drive and Walker’s first touchdown. During the drive Addie connected with senior receiver Ty Carr, Rutherford and junior receiver Armon Porter en route to the score.
With 32 seconds remaining in the first half the Demons managed to use just four plays to make the score 27-0 at intermission. Addie gained 10 yards on a scramble that set up passes to Carr down to the 11 yard line and a pass to Smith in the back of the end zone for a touchdown.
The Demons now 4-1, picked up 12 second half points, six in each quarter to close the game.
Northside’s two-game winning streak ended and with their non-region games over and done with the Eagles (3-3) will get Friday off before opening Region 1-6A play at Coffee High School on Oct. 11.
Warner Robins will face another rival Friday when they travel up the road to Freedom Field to face Houston County (3-1).
Notes:
Northside junior punter Adam Lemond punted eight times for an average of 37.3 yards each. Lemond is a first time starter for the Eagles following the stellar career of current Western Kentucky University freshman kicker/punter Cory Munson.
Northside senior defensive end Christian Walker registered the team’s only sack during the second quarter. Warner Robins had a pair of sacks to their credit from junior Xavier Hill and senior Taijun Galloway.
Through five games the Demons defense has given up more than 14 points just once this season during a 31-14 loss at Colquitt County on Sept. 20.
