Showcase your talent at the city of Perry’s Food Truck Friday: Shamrockin’ Karaoke

PERRY, Ga. — Whether you have the voice of the next American Idol, an average singing ability, or can’t sing at all, there’s no denying that karaoke can be a fun, low-pressure activity to enjoy with your friends and family. If you love to perform, the city of Perry is giving you a chance to showcase your talent at their first Food Truck Friday of the year.

The first event of the year is named “Shamrockin’ Karaoke,” perfectly themed for St. Patrick’s Day. The event will have an interactive karaoke setup with a live DJ, free family activities, and over 20 food trucks offering different flavors and types of food.

Karaoke, the newest feature of March’s event, is open to soloists and groups of up to four people over the age of 18. The city requests that interested singers sign up beforehand so their DJ can prepare. They also ask that the songs be free of profanity and that participants do not act obscene on stage.

Autumn Cameron, the city’s Special Events Administrator, was inspired to add karaoke from a conversation with her husband, an avid singer.

“If you think about it, you have a big group of people that are there to have a good time. And anytime you see people doing karaoke, they’re just having a blast. There’s no judgement, everybody’s enjoying themselves. And I just thought that would be a really cool atmosphere to bring to and combine with Food Truck Friday,” Cameron said.

Cameron said the event is the perfect opportunity to show off your singing skills if you love to perform.

“It’s an awesome chance if you do enjoy getting up in front of a group and singing. It’s a huge crowd, and it’s a good atmosphere. So, I would encourage anybody that wants to do karaoke or that enjoys doing karaoke to sign up, come out. If they haven’t been to Food Truck Friday, maybe sample a couple of the food trucks and just have a good time,” Cameron said.

Cameron mentioned that the city constantly seeks to introduce new events while highlighting its regular events. Food Truck Friday is among the most popular, and she has been working to promote a range of cuisines and family activities within it.

“It allows our small food truck vendors in the central Georgia area an opportunity to showcase their business. But it also allows the city of Perry’s residents and the surrounding communities to come together over food, drinks, and music. And it’s just a good time, and it’s always well attended. So, we wanted to make sure that we continue to bring it back,” Cameron said.

The event is held four times a year, with Cameron mentioning May’s upcoming theme will be Aloha Friday, an island-centered theme featuring a reggae band. Overall, she said their events are a result of hard work by city leadership to bring the community together.

“The mayor takes a lot of pride in bringing the community together,” Cameron said. “By doing so, [he,] the city manager and city council, they do a lot of work at giving us the resources that we need to put on events that bring the community together, that inspire people to want to come to Perry.”

Food Truck Friday: Shamrockin’ Karaoke is free to attend and will take place Friday, March 15, starting at 6 p.m. in Historic Downtown Perry.

The deadline to apply for karaoke is March 6. To register for karaoke, head to the city’s Facebook page, “City of Perry Government,” and click the link on their Food Truck Friday post or visit https://perry-ga.gov/food-truck-friday-shamrockin-karaoke-registration
