Affectionately known as “The Yodeler,” Robert’s nickname reflected his joyful spirit and love of making people laugh. He was a published poet, a storyteller at heart, and someone who never missed a chance to brighten the day with a joke or clever wordplay. He had a joke for every occasion and delighted in lifting the spirits of those around him.

Outside of his military service and artistic passions, Robert was an avid skier, and he took great pride in his stamp and coin collections. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures and found meaning in both quiet hobbies and heartfelt conversations.

Robert was a devoted father to his daughter, Sharon Kris McMahan (Mark), and is also survived by her mother, Linda Cook. He is further survived by his children: Bernice Key (Wayne), Philip Erick, and Tammy Watts (Bruce). He was a proud grandfather to Wendy Ball (Derrick), Andrea Hawn (Mark), Michelle Erlich (Doug), Victor Phillips (partner Leyah), and Maegan Jackson (Britton). He leaves behind a cherished legacy through his ten great-grandchildren: Christian, Douglas, Ava, Danika, Madilynn, Baylee, Carson, Jaxon, Alexander, and Victoria.

He is also survived by his loving sisters, Patricia Perschbacher and Juliana Hoch (Rob)

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kim Hobbs; his daughter-in-law, Tonya Erick; and his parents, Bernard Hitpas and Alice Hitpas.

His generosity continued even after his passing—true to his giving spirit, Robert donated his body to science to support medical research and education, a final act of service that perfectly embodied the way he lived his life.

Known for his warmth, humor, creativity, and compassion, Robert touched the lives of many. His legacy lives on through the stories he told, the people he loved, and the laughter he inspired.

Interment will take place at a later time. A nature area will be created and planted in Robert’s memory. Family may be contacted at Rchitpas65@yahoo.com for questions, or to share your memories, pictures, or stories.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
