Player Spotlight: Clair Whitson, Warner Robins Volleyball
Clair Whitson is only a junior at Warner Robins High School, but she has filled many roles for the Demonettes volleyball team. According to Coach Rogers, she is a versatile player and has proven that she is a leader when she is on the court.
Clair has been playing volleyball since the eighth grade. Clair’s offensive skills are impressive, but due to the needs of the team, she filled a role as the setter and unselfishly contributes in a 5-1 offensive scheme.
Her all-around versatility has allowed her to help other teammates grow and develop into better players. The skills required at setter have allowed her to lead the team with 266 assists and 93 kills. She has thrived in the 5-1 offense, which has allowed her to be the “quarterback” of the team and be successful in all facets of the game.
Clair’s love of the game is evident in the off-season, which unfortunately started on Oct. 9. This will allow for her to continue playing for her Club Volleyball team. Her previous position on the court was at outside hitter, but she has demonstrated that she can be successful in multiple roles.
Clair’s greatest memory of the past season was scoring 13 aces against Region 5A opponent Jones County. Her play at the service line has her ranked fourth highest in aces for 5A schools. At the Region 2-5A tournament, Clair was named the 2nd Team All Region. These accomplishments and playing with her Club team will prepare her for her senior season next year.
