Perry man charged with felony murder

A Perry man has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of certain crimes after stabbing his wife multiple times Tuesday morning, according to Detective Jason Jones of the Perry Police Department.

Personnel were dispatched to the parking lot of Creekwood Park at 101 Ida Lassater Circle around 10 a.m. on January 11.

“Basically, we got a 911 call about a stabbing that had occurred,” Jones shared with Houston Home Journal. “When we responded to the area, of course, we found the victim had been stabbed multiple times.

“Shortly thereafter, we came across the actual individual we suspected of doing the stabbing — which would have been Mrs. Kendrick’s husband, Matthew Kendrick.”

The victim, 20-year-old Shateria Kendrick, was transported to the Perry Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The 22-year-old suspect, Matthew Jamal Kendrick, was taken into custody without incident and is being held at the Houston County Detention Center.

The Kendricks had only been married for a couple of weeks at the time of the incident, Det. Jones said.

“To the best of our knowledge, it was just a domestic argument that escalated to him stabbing her,” he added.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently assisting with crime scene processing in this case, but Perry Police is the lead investigative entity.
