During the pre-council session held Tuesday, the Perry City

Council members concurred with a project that would provide a new path from the

city’s downtown parking lot to the businesses on Carroll Street.

The sidewalk would be a “pleasant, direct link with the

Commerce Street parking lot and Carroll Street,” stated City Manager Lee

Gilmour.

The path would be located between The Swanson and the

building next to the restaurant. Gilmour stated the city owns a five-foot strip

between the two properties where the sidewalk would be located.

Councilman William Jackson noted during the meeting that

lighting should be added to the project.

The city manager said this was an example of the city’s

“ongoing effort to be more pedestrian friendly.”

The project could start within the next two months, said

Gilmour.

In other business, Perry Police Det. Drew Dodson was

recognized for 20 years of service. Ricky Kilgore, the recreation department

director, was also recognized for 10 years of service. Both received pins

during the regular council meeting Tuesday.

The budget hearings have

been scheduled for May 13, May 20 and June 3. The official public hearing is

June 4. All meetings are open to the public.
