New logo, new look for Houston County Public Library
We spoke to Library Director Sara Paulk and Eloquence Creative Founder and Lead Designer Breanna Blocker, who gave us the details.
Blocker visited the Centerville branch earlier this year and offered design services. After seeing her previous work, the library decided to move forward and they got to work.
First, Blocker asked the team questions about their mission, values and what they would like in their branding. Paulk said she and the team sifted through multiple logos from other libraries and after deciding what they like and dislike, they gave Blocker a guideline on what they would like to see, but also fully entrusted her with her design process.
In March, Blocker delivered a complete branding package, complete with scalable logos, fonts, and color choices.
Paulk said now the logo is in use on their website, stationery, business cards, brochures and social media, along with any other future printouts and projects. A new website will go live Sep. 12.
With a mission of connecting the community with information and discovery, Blocker embodied the concept with the logo’s arrow imagery and movement throughout the logo, symbolizing how the library connects through both physical and digital means.
“I wanted to have an element of connectivity. So, in the colorful logo, you can see how the words kind of combined together and they build off of one another. So I just really wanted to be inspired by the fact that they wanted something that [they] could, singularly express, with the library books and the digital, so there’s an arrow in the design and books side by side in the ‘L’ as well,” Blocker explained
Paulk described the Perry, Centerville and Warner Robins locations as traditional, suburban and modern, respectively. In turn, the library was thrilled to take the opportunity to have a common thread that will bring the libraries together and emphasize their unique role in the community.
“I think it gives us a fresh, bold look and hopefully there will be recognition as it moves forward to say, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s the library.’ Because that’s kind of the goal of any kind of advertising and promotion is that you’re recognized. So I’m hopeful that that’s what will happen down the road,” Paulk said.
Blocker was equally as excited to give back to the community, offering her design services for free.
“I love being able to help businesses and organizations. It’s awesome to be able to see it out in the wild and see different people interact with it, see the public interact with it. And just, passively getting compliments on it, it’s really enjoyable for me to know that, that it’s working for, you know, working for them and that they’re getting something out of it..”
