Motorcyclist killed after collision on Lake Joy Road

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A vehicle accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist Sunday afternoon. According to the Warner Robins Police Department, officers were alerted to the accident around 1 p.m. on Oct. 16.

They provided details of the crash to The Journal. According to the police department, the crash occurred at the intersection of Lake Joy Road and Abercorn Street, just north of Highway 96.

Two vehicles were involved: a motorcycle identified as a 2022 Kawasaki 650 and a Ford F-250 truck.

The police department said the Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling northbound on Lake Joy in the right-hand lane. The truck was traveling westbound on Abercorn Street and attempting to make a left turn onto Lake Joy Road.

The motorcyclist attempted to switch to the left lane and ultimately collided with the front bumper of the truck.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 23-year-old Christian Hicks, was taken to Houston Medical Center and pronounced deceased. The 44-year-old male driver of the truck was uninjured.

Interim Chief Wayne Fisher told The Journal that speed is being investigated as a factor in the crash. He also urged the public to use caution around motorcycles.

“We all need to slow down and drive more defensively, be mindful of our speeds,” Fisher advised. “As it relates to motorcycles, we need to make sure, as the operator of a car or truck, before we come into a thoroughfare, to take a moment longer and be attentive to the potential of a motorcycle’s presence. Don’t underestimate the speed of which the motorcycle can be traveling. They’re a lot smaller; it can be harder to estimate the speed. Be mindful of that.”

He further explained the results of defensive driving.

“Really, for us all to slow down and be more attentive, it could not necessarily be just their own life that they’re saving, but that of somebody else’s,” Fisher said.

As of Monday, the Warner Robins Traffic Division is investigating the crash.
