Lightning strikes Perry home

PERRY, Ga. — Thirteen on-duty personnel, four chief officers and four off-duty firefighters of the Perry Fire Department were dispatched to 133 Parkview Grove at 3:03 p.m. Friday, Perry Fire Chief Lee Parker said.

“Basically, we had a lightning strike to the roof of this house,” Parker said. “It put a hole in the roof and had some active fire upon our arrival.”

Perry Fire personnel went to action, moving to the roof of the structure and into the interior of the home to check for and extinguish the flames. The fire stayed within the attic without spreading to any lower parts of the home, Parker added.

The Houston County Fire Department also reported to the scene. Parker said with incidents such as this one, they contact the Houston County Fire Department for backup.

“We have a mutual aid agreement with the County [F.D.],” Parker said. “And besides just having a mutual aid agreement, we have a great working relationship with the County [F.D.].”

Houston County Fire Chief Chris Stoner said Perry Fire had the scene under control once his department arrived.

“They [Perry F.D.] had it contained pretty quick,” Stoner said. “We mutual aided with them for our aerial trucks just in case they needed them.”

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
