Kerseys opening Church in the Park at Perry’s Forest Hill in January
Perry will welcome an unconventional new church Jan. 25, the Church in the Park. Located in the picturesque Forest Hill Park, Church in the Park, per a release, will offer “dynamic and motivational messages, a wide range of worship styles,” and even children’s church in a real caboose each Sunday.
It is not just the location that makes Church in the Park a different kind of church in middle Georgia, said head pastor Jordan Kersey. He explained the calling on the church is a simple one.
“We (pastors Jordan and Lindsey Kersey) don’t know all of the answers,” he said. “But we know that we love people, and that is what God has called us to do through Church in the Park. Love people right where they are.”
Jordan and his wife Lindsey knew that planting their church was their calling, but where that church would be located was left to God.
“We knew that ultimately we would start our church, but not when or where the church would be located; New York, Miami, or anywhere else God would take us was where we would go.”
God didn’t take the two Perry residents to Miami or New York, however. God’s favor led them to an owner of a local country club. The pastors thought that the country club would be the perfect fit for their church, but the owner (and God) had another plan. The country club owner had just purchased Forest Hill Park and the church building and caboose that are located there. When the park was suggested, the pastors knew that God had placed them in the right place at the right time.
Church in the Park is a nondenominational modern church that will offer two services for all ages. Although the church started with a plan for only one service, the pastors quickly added a second service to accommodate the expected congregation based on the over 10,000 facebook likes within a week of beginning the church’s page.
Although starting a church is hard work filled with long hours, the pastors – and new parents of a very active little boy – are up for whatever God has placed in their path.
Jordan attended seminary at Christ for the Nations Institute and served in the U.S. Air Force with an eight-month tour in Afghanistan. Alongside his wife Lindsey, who holds a bachelor’s degree in teaching, the two are excited about what God is doing in their lives, their town of Perry and in their Church in the Park.
