HoCo Fire rescues dog: No injuries reported in Becky Drive blaze
HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — At around 5 p.m. Thursday, the Houston County Fire Department was dispatched to 202 Becky Drive in response to a house fire.
By the time fire crews arrived on scene, the homeowner and sole occupant had already evacuated, but a dog was still trapped inside. Houston County Fire crews successfully rescued the pup and brought it out of the house.
The flames started in the basement of the residence, and fire crews were able to successfully contain the fire to the basement.
“We had several crews operating,” Houston County Fire Department Chief Christopher Stoner said. “The primary crew went in through the front door and went down to the basement to work on extinguishment. Then, we had a secondary crew that forced entry into an exterior door of the basement and was able to help finish extinguishment that way.”
The fire was contained within 15 minutes and crews stayed on scene for around two hours to help clean up, move belongings away that were not affected and put out hot spots. The Fire Department believes most of the basement can be salvaged.
The exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation. Nobody was injured from the fire, something Stoner was grateful to report.
“We’re glad that nobody was injured, and we’re extremely pleased with the outcome,” he said. “We hate to see anyone experience a fire like this, but we’re very happy with the outcome as far as the limited amount of damage and [we hope] that [the homeowners] will be able to restore most of their belongings in the home.”
