Hit and run on Watson Blvd. leads to fatality
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A Centerville man was killed after a car struck him on Watson Boulevard Sunday night, an accident the police department called tragic.
“The driver of the vehicle continuing on and not stopping has made it even that much more tragic.” Police Chief John Wagner said. “It makes it that much more serious, because now [the suspect] will face serious charges.”
According to the Warner Robins Police Department (WRPD), around 8:30 p.m., WRPD, Warner Robins Fire Department and Houston Healthcare EMS were sent to the 1800 block of Watson Boulevard.
Early investigations showed a 53-year-old man was crossing Watson Boulevard outside of the crosswalk. He had almost fully crossed the road and was traveling northbound, and then a vehicle traveling northbound struck him.
The vehicle continued on and did not stop to help. The victim was transported to Houston Medical Center.
The victim was identified as 53-year-old Clinton Taylor of Centerville.
The suspect and the vehicle involved are currently at-large. However, WRPD says the vehicle will have damage to their right front fender and front windshield.
Currently there is no ordinance against jaywalking, however Warner Robins Police Department did stress that pedestrians crossing outside of a crosswalk do not have the right of way.
“We encourage people to cross at a crosswalk.” Wagner said. “If you’re not doing such, you’ve got to make sure the roadway’s clear.”
The Warner Robins Traffic Division is currently investigating the incident. Anyone with more information may call Sgt. Tim Pippio at (478) 293-1048 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME (682-7463). Macon Regional Crimestoppers will reward you for information leading to an arrest.
