HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Those traveling to work on Friday morning may have been hindered as they headed north on Houston Lake Road, as first responders guided traffic around a crash that occurred in those early hours.

At approximately 8 a.m. on Nov. 4, troopers with Georgia State Patrol were dispatched to investigate the crash.

GSP Public Information Officer Konswello Monroe provided more information on the crash. Two vehicles were involved in the incident: a sedan and a larger carrier-type vehicle.

“The investigation determined that a Toyota Avalon failed to yield after stopping at a stop sign on Mt. Zion Road at Houston Lake Road,” Monroe told The Journal. “As a result, the Toyota traveled into the path of a dump truck traveling northbound on Houston Lake Road. The dump truck struck the Toyota, which traveled off the roadway into a private lot.”

Houston County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters were the first on scene, directing oncoming traffic around the crash and ensuring the safety of motorists by clearing the roadway of debris and spillage.

No injuries were reported at the scene. Bowtie Towing removed the Toyota Avalon from the crash site.

The driver of the Toyota Avalaon was identified by GSP as a local minor. The driver of the dump truck was identified as 61-year-old Benjamin Keen of Perry.
