GHSA increases groups to 25
On Thursday, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) announced coaches could increase the number of participants per group from 20 to 25 starting Monday, June 15 with the following stipulations:
The additional participants added to the group should be new additions only
Current groups should be the same individuals (including coaches) for each session with the exception of the new participants.
All current recommendations and/or restrictions are still in place.
Before the GHSA officially announced the increase of group sizes, Perry Head Coach Kevin Smith spoke on the change and if it will make much of a difference moving forward.
“We’re going to continue with our same plan,” said Smith about groups increasing to 25. “We’re already in groups of 20; we’ve arranged rides, we’ve got kids that have jobs, so I’m not going to rearrange. I’m going to keep it as consistent as I can.”
For teams like Perry, the increase of five more participants isn’t much of a change. Groups of 50 or so would shift the dynamic of how conditioning is conducted but for now, not much has changed.
