Dugout Club tabs Brett, Jackson for 2014 honors
Houston County High School baseball coach Jason Brett was named Coach of the Year 2014 on Jan. 17 during a ceremony in Atlanta. One of his students, Blake Jackson, was honored at the same event as Player of Year.
“I am both honored and humbled to receive the Georgia Dugout Club Coach of the Year Award for 2014,” remarked Brett. “The 2014 Houston County Baseball team was a great group of young men and I was blessed to be their coach. Houston County Baseball has been fortunate to have talented players, quality assistant coaches, supportive administration, wonderful staff and an outstanding fan base that has allowed us to be successful. I am extremely blessed to be a member of the HOCO family.”
Brett led his Houston County High Bears baseball team to victory in May 2014 as the 5A state baseball champion. This was the school’s first baseball state championship since opening in 1991.
Jackson, a senior, played third baseman and shortstop for the Bears’ winning team. He signed to play baseball with Georgia Tech, and in October’s Gold-White Series Jackson drove in four runs on three hits.
