WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A typical Tuesday night turned eventful for a local neighborhood, as a vehicle crashed into a house, according to the Warner Robins Police Department.

At around 9:30 p.m. May 30, officers responded to a single vehicle accident on the 100 block of Holly Street near the intersection of Bernard Way. 50-year old Leroy Harris was traveling along Holly Street and lost control of his vehicle. He struck a fire hydrant, then a stop sign and finally crashed into a house after crossing over Bernard Way.

Once on scene, officers believed Harris was impaired, then conducted a sobriety test. Harris was cited for failure to maintain lane and arrested for driving under the influence. The house sustained minor damage, but nobody was injured.

The police department said DUIs are typically seen anytime but they see a slight uptick during holidays and weekends. They also provided advice for celebrating safely.

“If you’re going to consume alcohol, make sure you have a designated driver,” Assistant Police Chief Wayne Fisher said.

For the summer months, Fisher advised to balance alcohol with other drinks.

“Make sure you’re also balancing it out with water intake, because of dehydration and heat stress issues,” Fisher said. “Drinking alcohol when you’re dehydrated can lead to further heat related injuries.”
