Downtown Perry merchants to host fourth annual Halloween event
Downtown Perry merchants are preparing to have a “spooktacular” costume contest as part of their plans for Halloween.
The Perry Downtown Merchants Association (PDMA) and the Perry Main Street Advisory Board will host the fourth annual Sweets and Treats on Downtown Streets Monday, Oct. 31, from 4-6 p.m. Children ages 12 and under are invited to trick-or-treat at participating businesses surrounding the downtown square.
Downtown streets surrounding participating merchants will be closed for the duration of the event to ensure safety.
The PDMA will host the costume contest at 5:30 p.m. in front of the historic courthouse on the lawn facing Carroll Street.
Guest judges will select one male and one female winner in each age category: ages 0-3 years, 4-7 years and 8-12 years. This year, a family costume category has been added, and two families will be selected as winners in that category. Prizes will be awarded to winners.
The PDMA requests that trick-or-treaters stay with their parents or guardians, and no gory or inappropriate costumes are allowed.
