Tuesday, Houston County Commissioner Larry Thomson made an announcement regarding the March 2020 election.

At the monthly board meeting, Thomson announced he would not seek re-election at the end of his term in 2020. “As you all probably know my tenure ends on Dec. 31, 2020. I’m not going to

re-up this time because I have spent 20 years on this board. I also served as a county building inspector for six years and seven years on the Board of Elections. So I have spent half of my adult life in some capacity with the county. I have really enjoyed my time and appreciate the county with the depth of my heart. I appreciate the voters for letting me serve you. I’ll still be here for my last year, but I just wanted to let the people know my position will be over. Thank you all.”

Chairman Tommy Stalnaker expressed his appreciation for Thomson.

“I know this decision has weighed on your (Thomson) mind for a long time,” Stalnaker said. “I appreciate what you have done, but more important than that, I appreciate your friendship. You have another year to serve and we’re not going to let you go on recess (he said laughing). There is a lot to be done in 2020 and you will be a vital part of it. I will save more remarks for a later time, but I do thank you for you service.”
