Coley commits to Vanderbilt
Houston County cornerback Caleb Coley broke the news on his college commitment Monday night via Twitter by announcing his decision to attend Vanderbilt University following his high school career.
Coley has seen a plethora of interest and offers since last fall. He chose Vanderbilt over about 20 others programs that wanted him including the likes of Michigan State, Wisconsin, University of Miami, Ole Miss and Clemson.
“I give God all the glory and honor for giving me peace in my decision and lifting the pressure off my shoulders,” wrote Coley in his commitment message. “This is a 40-year decision not a four-year decision and I feel led by Jesus Christ to Vanderbilt University. All Glory to God! Thank you to all the coaches who recruited me it’s been a huge blessing. God Bless!”
Coley’s decision caught the eye of Las Vegas Raiders cornerback and Perry native Casey Hayward. Hayward congratulated Coley and was happy to see Coley’s decision to attend Vanderbilt, Hayward’s alma mater.
Based on Vandy’s track record Coley is the kind of cornerback they crave and according to 247Sports Vanderbilt writer Robbie Weinstein, Coley has been one of Vanderbilt’s top targets at cornerback.
Coley is a rangy corner (listed at six-feet tall, 180 pounds) with physicality, not just purely finesse. He’s rated a three-star athlete by 247Sports and anticipated to have an outstanding senior season this year.
With teams like Jones County, Perry and Warner Robins on the schedule Coley will line up against some very talented receivers. He’s definitely a player to watch this season before he moves on to the collegiate level.
